Qatar Airways A350 Inaugural Flight from JFK Screeches to a Halt

A Qatar Airways A350 was speeding down the runway on John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport's Runway 13 at 100 mph when it suddenly ground to a halt. The Inaugural flight wasn't so inaugural after all after panic arose in the cabin. The automatic system which monitors the speed at which the plane takes off and the length of runway it needs decided to blank out and replied by saying there was not enough runway left to complete the takeoff. This led to the plane stopping. The plane took off 3 hours later after the reevaluation of the wheels and engines. Soon, in April/ May 2015, Qatar Airways will invite its second flight to the Big Apple. QR703 and QR704 will be operated by an A350 and will take off in the morning hours at JFK Airport. QR701 and QR702 will still be operated by a
777-300ER and will continue to takeoff at JFK at 10-11 pm.

Qatar Airlines' first commercial A350 flight from the United States featured an aborted takeoff.

Qatar Airways A350 arrives in JFK Airport

IMG_6987

Qatar Airways Airbus A350-900XWB made a somewhat unexpected arrival at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday. An unannounced charter flight made the approximately 13 hour flight from Doha to New York, with Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker onboard. Tuesday’s arrival marked the first time that an A350 visited the United States.
IMG_6926On arrival, the aircraft was met with the traditional water cannon salute from a pair of Port Authority of New York and New Jersey firefighting units. Even the often subdued air traffic controllers in JFK Tower seemed excited for this moment. Although this flight was a one time only charter, scheduled flights are beginning soon. Qatar Airways will be replacing the 777-200LR that currently flies the Doha-Philadelphia flight on January 1st. Other upcoming A350 flights include a new Doha-Boston flight beginning in mid March, as well as the addition of a second daily flight to JFK on April 1st.

Emirates to add THIRD DAILY FLIGHT to Riyadh

Emirates will boost its services to Riyadh with the addition of a third daily flight starting December 15, 2015. So far this year, over 450,000 passengers have traveled on the Dubai-Riyadh service. The third flight will be serviced by the A330-200, will be upgraded to a 777-200LR in 2017, and hopefully a 777X by 2020. EK815 departs Dubai at 01:25 am and arrives in Riyadh at 02:25 am. The return flight, EK816 departs Riyadh at 3:45 am and arrives in Dubai at 06:45 am. The other two flights that operate Riyadh are operated by Boeing 777-300ERs and are usually filled with 82% capacity. Adding this redye flight to Dubai will create more connections to other parts of the world, including to the United States.
